THE Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been included in the National Urban Development Renewal Mission and it will get enough funds for infrastructure development befiting a modern industrial city, according to the Municipal Administration Minister, Mr K. Ranga Rao.
He was speaking at a press meet here on Thursday. He said vacancies in the municipal bodies, including those in the newly formed municipalities and corporations, would be filled up through outsourcing and with contract employees.
A meeting would be held in February to initiate measures like shifting surplus staff to municipalities where the staff is in deficit and engaging the contract employees.
``We can think of recruiting permanent employees only if the financial position improves.
"However, important posts will be given only to permanent employees.''
Mr Rao said the State Government had written to the Union Government to include Warangal and Tirupati corporations also in the National Urban Development Renewal Mission.
Some municipalities were also likely to get funds from the national body, he added.
Elections to the GVMC would be held as soon as possible, the Minister said.
