Dabur, Infosys win ICSI corporate governance awards

Mumbai, Jan. 13

Leading FMCG company Dabur India Ltd and IT services major Infosys Technologies Ltd have won the `Institute of Company Secretaries of India's (ICSI) National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance' for 2005.

Patriarch of the Hero Group Mr Brij Mohan Lal Munjal was selected for the `Life Time Achievement Award' for excellence in corporate governance.

At a function held here on Friday, the Union Minister for Company Affairs, Mr Prem Chand Gupta, gave away the awards. Mr Rahul Munjal, grandson of Mr Brij Mohan Munjal, received the award on behalf of his grandfather.

The winners were selected from a list of 25 top companies. Mr V.N. Khare, former Chief Justice of India, headed the jury.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gupta said the Government proposed to strengthen the autonomy of professional institutes like the ICSI. "With freedom comes accountability," he said.

e-Governance project: The Minister said the pilot e-Governance project would come into force in Coimbatore and Delhi from next month, which would allow the corporate sector to file documents and others required as per the statutory requirements to the Registrar of Companies in a transparent and hassle-free manner. The project would be rolled out across all centres from the middle of this year, he said.
