Steel PSU executives to go on mass leave on Feb 2

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Jan. 15

EXECUTIVES of public sector steel companies will go on a mass casual leave on February 2 to protest against the non-implementation of a 4 per cent hike in basic pay as an annual increment.

This decision was taken at Steel Executives Federation of India (SEFI)'s last council meeting held on January 7 at Rourkela in Orissa.

"All SEFI Council members will set on an indefinite strike from February 7, 2006 at New Delhi in protest against the apathetic attitude of the authorities towards the officers of the affiliated units of SEFI," a release stated.

SEFI is the apex national body representing more than 20,000 professionals working in different public sectors companies such as Steel Authority of India Ltd, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd and Mecon.

The basic pay of executives in other leading public sectors such as NTPC and ONGC had already been increased by 4 per cent.

"SEFI's decision to press its demand stems from the fact that the gap in pay scales between SEFI constituents and several other public sector undertakings has widened significantly and the disparity in annual increment is one of the principal causes," the release said.
