Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Jan. 16

THE domestic rubber continued to record new highs on Monday. Shortage of rubber in the main marketing centres and extremely firm overseas indices were the inspiring factors behind the current uptrend.

Covering groups took initiative to offer better quotes while sheet rubber RSS 4 was traded firm at Rs 73 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi against Rs 72.25 a kg on Saturday. The NMCE rubber futures moved up sharply quoting the February delivery contract at Rs 75 (Rs 73.92), March Rs 77.52 (Rs 75.74), April Rs 78.14 (Rs 76.86) and May at Rs 79.10 (Rs 77.50) per kg for RSS 4.

The volumes were better at 1,461 lots recording 713 lots in February, 591 in March, 99 in April and 58 lots in May till midday.

The spot prices per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 73 (72.25); RSS-5: Rs 71.50 (Rs 70.50); Ungraded: Rs 70 (Rs 69.50); ISNR 20: Rs 70.75 (Rs 70); and Latex 60%: Rs 52 (Rs 52).
