Hyderabad , Jan.17

THE Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked the Cabinet sub-committee to create separate cells in Krishna and West Godavari districts with an officer in the cadre of a Deputy Collector to closely monitor the restoration of the Kolleru lake. The Chief Minister said on Tuesday that exclusive allocations would be made in the coming Budget to ensure the smooth functioning of the operations.

He promised that in view of Andhra Pradesh High Court's directions and the observations of environmentalists, the State Government would do everything to restore Kolleru lake at least up to fifth contour. To prevent the seawater from coming into the lake, two regulators across Upputeru would be constructed and tenders for the first regulator would be finalised by January-end, and the second regulator by February-end. The State Government will spend Rs 65 crore for this purpose.
