Hyderabad , Jan. 17

SATYAM Computer Services Ltd, the IT solutions provider, has been allotted a 50-acre site in Bhimli near Visakhapatnam by the State Government for establishing a centre in the IT special economic zone.

The company had last year signed up with the Andhra Pradesh Government to locate a centre in Vizag, after the State decided to promote Tier II cities to ensure that the local people get employment and IT companies can take advantage of lower infrastructure costs.

The State Cabinet, which met here today, announced that the company has hinted that it would invest about Rs 100 crore in Vizag centre and potentially employ about 2,000 people directly and about 3,750 people indirectly. The company mentioned that its export turnover from Vizag could touch Rs 2,300 crore within five years.

The land has been allotted at Rs 10 lakh per acre and compares to similar tier II cities of Mangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Madurai and Bhubhaneswar.

The State Government expects to employ about three lakh people in the IT and IT ES sector by the year 2009, up from about 1.5 lakh employed across cities in the State.
