New Projects GAIL-BPCL joint venture incorporated for city gas projects Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 17 THE joint venture of GAIL (India) Ltd and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) - Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) - has been incorporated. In a statement issued here on Monday, GAIL said the joint venture company would implement city gas projects for supply of piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, and compressed natural gas (CNG) to automobile consumers of Pune. With the incorporation of the MNGL, the supply of PNG and CNG would be expedited in Pune, which has been identified by the Supreme Court as one of the most polluted cities having high vehicular pollution, the statement said. The natural gas supply to Pune would be through GAIL's Panvel-Pune Pipelines, which is likely to be commissioned by June 2007. This pipeline would be connected through GAIL's Dahej-Uran pipeline, which is scheduled to be commissioned by February 2007, GAIL said. MNGL is planning to set up 29 CNG stations, the statement said. It is expected that CNG supply to automobiles shall commence by September 2007, it added. MNGL also plans to supply PNG to about 1,000 domestic consumers in the first three years, under the initial phase. MNGL is the third joint venture of GAIL with BPCL for implementation of city gas projects. GAIL's joint venture company Central U.P. Gas Ltd (CUGL) is implementing gas projects in Kanpur and Bareily, and Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL). GAIL has six joint ventures - Mahanagar Gas Ltd, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd, Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd, Central UP Gas Ltd and Green Gas Ltd for implementation of city gas projects in various parts of the country.
