Secys' panel clears talks with GMR — Central TUs concern over Delhi, Mumbai airports revamp

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 17

THE Central Trade Unions on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the Government move to privatise the airports in Delhi and Mumbai through what they called "manipulative bidding process''.

"The fastest and only logical way to modernise these airports is to permit the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to carry out the modernisation work in line with the Alternate Action Plan presented by the joint forum of the AAI to the Government in June 2004," a statement said.

The trade unions warned the Government of ``unrest and disruption of public utility services'' if it went ahead with the process of awarding the modernisation work to private bidders.

"The Government owes an explanation to the people as to why the report of the Alternate Action Plan committee is not considered and the AAI is being forced to part with two of its major airports earning 65 per cent of the total revenue," the statement said.
