Economic Offences Calcutta HC dismisses Dinesh Dalmia's petition Our Legal Correspondent
Kolkata , Jan. 17 MR JUSTICE PRATAP Kumar Ray of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dismissed a writ petition filed by Mr Dinesh Dalmia, an alleged prime accused in the Rs 120-crore Calcutta Stock Exchange scam of 2001. In the writ petition, Mr Dalmia sought an order from the court for quashing his name from the first information report (FIR) that was filed in this regard. While dismissing the petition, Mr Justice Ray observed that Mr Dalmia has failed to make out a case for quashing of his name from the FIR. The judge observed that there were several positive allegations in the FIR and, as such, the quashing of Mr Dalmia's name from it does not arise. The court further held that there was enough material against the DSQ Group, of which Mr Dalmia is the Managing Director. The court held that if Mr Dalmia who is avoiding arrest till date intends to surrender, he could do so before any competent court, which will deal with the matter in accordance with the law.
