Airlines Singapore Airlines keen on more flights to Chennai, Delhi Our Bureau
Chennai , Jan. 19 SINGAPORE Airlines, which operates 56 services a week out of India, would like to double the number of flights out of Chennai and Delhi, according to Mr B.K. Ong, General Manager, Singapore Airlines. The airline currently operates two flights out of Mumbai and daily fights out of Chennai and Delhi. Mr Ong said the demand for airline seats continues to be strong. Both Chennai and Delhi are good markets and could use the additional capacity, he said. The airline started operating additional flights to Bangalore in the last winter schedule and took over the Silk Air (the regional wing of Singapore Airlines) services to Hyderabad. Singapore Airlines also operates flights to Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Amritsar. Silk Air operates to two destinations in Kerala. A good percentage of passengers on Singapore Airlines are transiting to points beyond, Mr Ong said. The passenger profile is a mix of corporate, leisure, immigrants and incentive traffic. The airline is also starting operations to Pakistan, Abu Dhabi and Moscow, Mr Ong said. The big event in the airline's calendar would be the launch of the Airbus A380, he said.
