Sugar Agri-Biz & Commodities - Sugar Upper Ganges Sugar posts higher net Our Bureau
MUMBAI: Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries Ltd, belonging to the K.K. Birla group, has posted a 50.18 per cent increase in sales turnover at Rs 109.02 crore for the second quarter ended December 31, 2005, up from Rs 72.59 crore in the year-ago period.
Net profit increased by 52.52 per cent to Rs 13.71 crore (Rs 8.99 crore). For the half-year ended December 2005, turnover was at Rs 199.24 crore (Rs 141.71 crore), profit before depreciation and tax at Rs 31.27 crore (Rs 22.64 crore) and net profit at Rs 18.12 crore (Rs 2.98 crore). The expansion of the company's distillery at Seohara from 55 kilolitres per day (klpd) to 100 klpd at an estimated outlay of Rs 36.08 crore is progressing as per schedule and is expected to commence production at the enhanced capacity from December 2006, a company release said. The installation of a 24-MW co-generation plant at Seohara for export and captive use at an estimated capital outlay of about Rs 100 crore is in progress and the plant is likely to go on stream at the beginning of the calendar year 2007.
