Delhi, Mumbai airports upgrade: e-GoM decision on Jan 24

New Delhi , Jan. 19

THE empowered Group of Ministers (e-GoM), looking into the modernisation of the Delhi and Mumbai airports, is to take a final view on the process on January 24.

"The January 24 meeting will decide on who should be awarded the contract for modernisation of the two airports. There will be no delay," a senior Government official said. The e-GoM is said to be examining the option of broadbasing the criterion so as to allow more than one bidder for each of the two metro airports.

Sources indicated that there was no legal problem in the e-GoM examining this route as the Request for Proposal that was presented to the bidders allows the Government to exercise this option. The issue came into prominence, as the Sreedharan committee had initially suggested that the bid of only one of the six bidders in the fray be accepted. Further, it had suggested that the Government consider another route for developing the other airport. Instead of accepting the recommendations of the Sreedharan committee, which had at that time evaluated the bid of only one of the six bidders, the Government asked the committee to evaluate the bids of all the six bidders.

The latest report, which is based on evaluation of all six bidders, is said to be on the same lines as was presented by the global consultants to the project. "The evaluation by the Sreedharan committee does not alter the ranking that was done by the global technical advisor. Therefore, there should be little problem in the process going ahead after the e-GoM," sources said.
