Logistics - Mergers & Acquisitions

A sweet at the end of a 3-hour wait

Tunia Cherian George

Mumbai , Jan 19

MR Naresh Goyal's seventh-floor residence at Jupiter Apartments on Altamount Road in South Mumbai was the scene of much activity today, with presspersons and TV cameras on the ready to flash confirmation of a deal that had been in the making for sometime now.

It was a nearly three-hour wait for some television crews who took position outside the closed doors of the apartment at 9:30 a.m.

Helped by closed circuit cameras, the house staff ensured that the eager presspersons were kept at bay in the lobby, while the board members present completed their deliberations.

Close to noon, the doors were opened to allow the waiting army of mediapersons and camerapersons in. As they prepared for Mr Goyal's statement, photographers clicked furiously getting photographs of Mr Goyal, his wife, Ms Anita Goyal, Mr Vic Dungca, and Mr Saroj Dutta, both board members.

Mr Goyal welcomed everyone personally but did not oblige camerapersons when asked to show a victory sign. "I do not see this acquisition as a victory of any sort," he said declining their requests.

In the melee, Ms Goyal was overheard saying that her spacious flat suddenly seemed quite small. She was seen instructing the staff to remove an art piece out of harm's way, while the press trampled all over her carpets.

When things settled down, Mr Goyal took the media's queries with patience, even rating the Indian press as among the best in the world.

When the press conference finally concluded and presspersons began making their way back to office, ladoos were distributed to mark the Jet-Sahara shaadi.
