Cruise vessel calls at Mangalore port

THE passenger vessel - M.V. Vista Mar - called at New Mangalore Port on Saturday.

Sources in the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) told Business Line that the ship, which anchored at the port at 7.30 a.m., has 243 passengers and 112 crewmembers on board.

Most of the passengers are from Germany and a few from Austria.

Of the 243 passengers, nearly 190 members visited various places in and around Mangalore, including Gokarnatheswhara and Kadri temples, St Aloysius Chapel, and Achal Cashew Industries in Mangalore.

They also visited Soan's Farm at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district. Soan's Farm has unique varieties of horticultural crops from India and abroad.

The ship, which came from Kochi, proceeded to Maldives via Kochi.

This is the third cruise vessel to call at New Mangalore Port during the current financial year and the first one during the calendar year.

During 2004-05, eight cruise vessels called at New Mangalore Port.
