BSNL releases lifetime pre-paid card in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd released the lifetime pre-paid SIM card (Excel Anant) in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

The card, priced at Rs 949 plus service tax of 10.2 per cent (Rs 1,046), will enable the subscriber to receive calls lifelong without any further payment. It will have national roaming facility. Outgoing call facility can be obtained with top-up cards and recharge with any top-up card once in six months.

Releasing the card, Mr J. Ganta, District Telecom General Manager, said BSNL has 30 per cent market share in the cell connection in Vizag. The number of cell connections had gone up by 26,000 during the current financial year. "At present, we have given in all 56,000 cell connections and with the introduction of this card it will go up by 25,000-30,000 connections by the end of March,'' he said.

He said 40 more cell towers were being erected during the current year in the district at a cost of Rs 16 crore. So far, 2,700 broadband connections have been given and there was a waiting list of 600. He said, however, there was stagnation in landline connections.
