Photo-search site to be launched in Feb

Bangalore , Jan. 23

IN February, netizens will have one more service to check out. Riya, www.riya.com, is a novel photo-search site by Mr Munjal Shah, a Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur.

The Web site uses face-recognition, which is now being used in security (access control) and biometrics, to identify friends and relatives from photos taken with a digital camera. The need to share and view others' photos is also rising and this is where Riya can help, he added.

Besides this, users can soon be able to upload photos (only JPEG format) to the Web site from their computer, or source them from other photo sharing Web sites.

"Once enough users start using the service, we will have a public library of images that can be searched," said Mr Azhar Khan, co-founder, Riya. Riya users can apply filters for private photos and allow their friends to add tags.

The company has 25 employees, nine of whom are based in an R&D centre in Bangalore. The company will double the number of engineers at this facility in the next year.

It is funded by Bay Partners, BlueRun Ventures and LeapFrog Ventures.
