New Delhi , Jan. 23 BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has entered into an exclusive agreement with Malaysia-based Fifth Media to launch the world's smallest PDA handset using Microsoft Windows platform — Axia, in India. The mobile handset will be branded as CellOne-Axia and is likely to be priced at Rs 17,000. The move is aimed at taking on a similar tie-up between market leaders Airtel and Canada-based Research in Motion to offer the Blackberry handset, which is priced at over Rs 20,000. BSNL has bundled the Axia handset with its post-paid CellOne connection with a monthly charge of Rs 999. Under this package, subscribers will get mobile STD rate of Re 1 a minute and local call rate of 60 paise a minute. The first 700 calls will be free. The Plan has a registration charge of Rs 500 and a one-time activation charge of Rs 200. The company is also planning to give finance support for those customers who want to take the handset by paying monthly instalments. The Axia handset is a Microsoft Windows CC.Net OS phone and has all advanced features such as GPRS and MMS services for data and video downloads. Unlike a Blackberry, the Axia phone also has a camera that supports video recording in MPEG4 and H.232 formats. It has a 64MB memory, 64MB SDRAM and weighs only 120g.
