Toshiba Corp to launch mobiles, home appliances

New Delhi , Jan. 24

JAPANESE electronics major Toshiba Corporation today said that it would introduce its range of home appliances and mobile phones in the Indian market.

"We are currently studying the requirements of typical Indian households," the Managing Director, Toshiba India Pvt Ltd, Mr Itaru Ishibashi, told reporters here today.

About their plans to start manufacturing facilities in India, Mr Ishibashi said, "We have a manufacturing facility in Thailand... initially we will source products from there but may set up a unit here depending on the market."

The company will be able to take advantage to the Indo-Thai FTA and price its products competitively.

Toshiba also plans to step up on its brand building efforts in India.

The company, which already has presence in the Indian software and hardware sectors, had done business worth $10 million in the last nine months (April-December) and is aiming to triple this number over the next two years.
