Hardware HCL sells 40,000 low-cost PCs Moumita Bakshi Chatterjee
New Delhi , Jan 24 HCL Infosystems today said it has sold close to 40,000 units of the sub-Rs 10,000 personal computers since its launch in September 2005. "The total sales, so far, has been 40,000 units in this category. We had started delivering the sub-Rs 10,000 PC from October onwards," Mr Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems told Business Line. He said that the product's launch had prompted a new segment of people to look at affordable PC offerings. "Of all the people who come to a shop to buy the sub-Rs 10,000 computers, about 50-60 per cent go ahead with the purchase, while the balance opt to spend a few thousand more and buy a PC with more functionalities in the Rs 12,000-14,000 range," he said. Besides PC pricing, the company now focuses on offering easy finance options to bring down the buying cost of a computer to Rs 300-400 EMI.
