Broadband BT Infonet India to expand network Our Bureau
Bangalore , Jan. 25 BT Infonet India, a partnership between BT Infonet, a British telcom company and i2i Enterprise, a broadband provider, is bringing `The World Network' into India. The World Network spans180 cities, covering over 9,00,000 km. The design of the network is such that the company guarantees high uptime to enterprises. Mr John Samuel, Country Manager, told Business Line that even if a cable were to snap, traffic would get re-routed in less than 155 milli seconds to the next cable. The company is currently laying a domestic multi protocol label switchingnetwork to connect tier two and tier three cities. In Karnataka, the company is expanding the fibre network to connect Mysore and Mangalore. The company currently has five big cities covered and connects them to cities across the world through landing stations at Mumbai, Kochi Cochin and Chennai. Now, linking upcoming cities to keep up with the expansion of IT and ITeS companies is the priority. According to Mr John Samuel, the target is to cover 50 cities by year-end. The first of the network services will be available by the end of the first quarter of 2006, he said. HP India recently awarded the global communication services contract of Bank of Baroda to BT Infonet India. The company has around 300 clients in India, many from the banking sector for swift international funds and forex transfer, said Mr Samuel. The company is seeing more IT and BPO organisations interested in voice and video over IP for intra-office connectivity.
