Spreading new culture

A bunch of bananas developed through tissue culture on display at the Horticultural Trade fair - 2006 that opened in Hyderabad on Wednesday. With banana becoming an important global food after rice, wheat and milk, a Hyderabad firm has begun raising bananas through tissue culture for mass production.

Varieties such Dwarf Cavandish, Robusta and Grand Naine have been raised through this process. Tissue culture plants are reportedly disease-free.
