Flower to keep everone happy

A. Roy Chowdhury

A chrysanthemum flower on display at a flower show in Kolkata on Friday. The flower was first cultivated in China as a flowering herb and is described in writings as early as the 15th century B.C. The ancient Chinese name for chrysanthemum is "Chu''. The Chinese city of Chu-Hsien (which means Chrysanthemum City) was so named to honour the flower. Japan, where the flower was first grown around the 8th century A.D., has a National Chrysanthemum Day (Festival of Happiness).
