PCB serves notice on TTP

Thiruvananthapuram , Jan. 27

THE Kerala State Pollution Control Board has served a show cause notice on Travancore Titanium Products Ltd (TTP), leading manufacturer of anatase grade titanium dioxide in the country, over installation of effluent treatment and disposal facilities.

The notice, dated January 17, has said that the Kerala High Court had ordered the company to install the facilities by April 30, 2006.

Besides, the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee had, on June 24, 2005 stipulated the same time limit for installation and commissioning of the facilities. Further, the Monitoring Committee had called for achievement of definite intermediate physical targets by October 31, 2005 and December 31, 2005.

However, according to sources, the board has noted that there has not been any noteworthy progress on the part of the company to achieve the intermediate targets.

And the company's contention that its efforts were hindered by an interim stay granted by the Lok Ayukta is not tenable as no action has been taken by the company to get the stay vacated.
