Preeti Mehra

Davos , Jan. 28

INDIA and Russia will be working for a new economic agreement in a handful of sectors including tea, tobacco and leather, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, said in a meeting with the Indian press at the World Economic Forum here.

He also said that Russia had given a proposal for investing in India. Further on the investment front, he said that at WEF he had been approached by a number of large companies who had shown interest in establishing a manufacturing base in India, including Mr Michael Dell who had informed him that Dell could be establishing a manufacturing base in India soon.

Apart from participating in a session on trade at the WEF, Mr Nath attended a meeting of the G 6 on the sidelines, which was hosted by the Trade Minster of Australia. The ministers at the meeting reviewed the position on Doha round issues ahead of the mini-ministerial of the WTO.
