SAIL, Rlys R&D work on new rails, wheels

SAIL has joined hands with the Railways, particularly its Lucknow-based Research Development and Standards Organisation, to improve quality of rails and wheels.

The two organisations are working together to develop new products like micro-allayed rails capable of taking higher axle loads, corrosion-resistant rails, mainly for the coastal areas, and bainitic rails for increased axle loads as well as greater speed.
