Stock Markets Columns - Chat Good morrow to you, here the street is narrow
Khan studied the timeline of ‘kilo jumps’ in the indices. Jogin took a deep breath thinking about Pfizer’s inhaler version of insulin. Dakshinamoorthy began reading about the steel industry. But Sridevi switched her TV to recording mode so as not to miss the cricket match, even as she got the ‘gang’ to respond to a short message, “Chattention!” Fall in line. ** Sri : Hi, everybody! Ready for 3K and 10K? ;-) Jog: “This morning for ten thousand of your throats,” says Menenius. Dax: In a tragedy called Coriolanus. I’d sing, “A thousand fragrant posies”. Kay: Chart patterns suggest Nifty 3000 and Sensex 10000 may happen… Dax: In the near term! Means, we are moving into the next higher zone. Jog: Counting beads! ‘Cos significant corrective phase appears imminent. Kay: Hmm…Everyone will turn real…ly cautious from now on! Jog: “Akeli na bazaar jaya karo nazar lag jayegi.” Dax: As long as FIIs buy in Indian shares, won’t you say… Sri : That the market is likely to stay on bullish course? Kay: Reports say that the US economy is looking up. Jog: Better-than-expectations in Microsoft and P&G during last quarter. Sri : When P&G looks up, Indian Shaving should be back in action? Dax: Anybody has last week’s performance? Jog: Here. PBA Infrast made a profit of 13 per cent last Monday. Sesha Paper was up almost 10 per cent, while RPG Life Sci made about half that much on Jan 23. Venus Remedies and Rana Sugars too earned about 5 per cent at the start of last week. Sakthi Sugars and Tamil Newspr gained about 3 per cent, while Mahindra Ges and ABB were up about 2 per cent. Era Construc and Morarjee Real ended positive last Monday. Kay: Suzlon may witness an upward trend this week. Sri : When the markets absorb its earnings numbers today. Dax: Engineering sector stocks may continue their momentum. Jog: With ABB, Siemens and BHEL at the forefront. Kay: L&T appears to hold upside potential. Sri : True, its order book has been growing at a rapid pace! Dax: “Several tunes faster than you’ll tell money,” as in The Winter’s Tale! Jog: Super Sales likely to attract attention following impressive numbers. Kay: Brief weakness in SBI likely as markets react to lacklustre earnings. Sri : That’s why the stock got caught in a narrow band. Jog: “Good morrow to you. Here the street is narrow,” as in Julius Caesar! Kay: “Eyes of fire sparking through sights of steel,” from King Henry IV. Sri : “And the loud trumpet blowing them together, then, then…” Dax: Steel sector stocks may cool off as the Mittal Steel announcement... Sri : Wears off. ‘Jo lohaar loha dhhaale, har auzaar dhhal jaaye…’ Jog: Eltrol may witness an upside; expectations of its one-time dividend. Kay: From cash generated out of sale of its business to Siemens. Sri : I see a firm trend in Gati; it’s mobilising resources at attractive prices. Jog: RS Software doing an issue? Indicative pricing Rs 65 or so? Dax: The stock went up to Rs 122 recently. Now, at Rs 93 or so. Kay: What about Vinyl Chemicals? Sri : A Pidilite Industries-backed company, now quoting at around Rs 18. Jog: Volumes low; investors would have liked it to do better. Dax: Centurion Bank is now at Rs 25 or so. But inching up. Kay: Lying low for a very long time. Sri : It recently joined forces with Bank of Punjab. Volumes decent. Dax: Heard Ginni Filaments would do well on expansion plans. Jog: Am watching Usha Martin as its profit improved significantly in Q3. Kay: Canara Bank looks strong in charts; how about for the short term? Sri : Any news about metals? Jog: Aluminium and zinc will make most of the gains this year. JMO Kay: Which means Nalco and HZL should see a lot of action. Dax: Thinking of going long on silver. ‘Chandi ki daal par, sone ka mor’. Sri : Plans are afoot to start ETF for silver. After regulatory permission. Kay: That will result in funds getting into silver. Jog: One of the reasons for silver’s good show last week.
