PHDCCI plea to implement broadcasting code

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 29

THE PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has asked the Government to implement the broadcasting code and come up with the formation of a Broadcasting Council to monitor entertainment channels on the lines of the Press Council of India and Censor Board.

The basic code should take care of aspects covering national sovereignty, religious sentiments and the Indian ethos and culture. It should not encourage crime or lead to disorder or be offensive to public feeling, suggests the chamber. With respect to religious programmes there should be no improper exploitation of religious susceptibilities and offence to the religious views and beliefs of those belonging to a particular religion, the chamber said.

Due emphasis should be given to promote Indian culture, religion, and beliefs.
