Kochi Mercantile Marine Dept office upgraded

THE Cochin Port Trust Chairman, Mr N. Ramachandran, has inaugurated the office of the Principal Officer, Mercantile Marine Department at Kochi.

Earlier the office was functioning as a branch office of the department under the Chennai District Office. With this upgradation, the whole of Kerala and Karnataka has come under the jurisdiction of Kochi office.

Inaugurating the upgraded office, the Port Chairman said the opening of the new office would pave the way for maintaining high standards in the shipping field here.

He urged to maintain globally accepted standard during the process of growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Commander M. Jithendran, Chairman and Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard Ltd said that the upgradation of the MMD office here would be helpful to the yard in large amount, especially during the process of proposed development activities.

The yard, he said is on its way to become the finest shipyard of the region within 3-4 years, he said.

Dr P. Misra, Principal Officer, MMD, Chennai, Mr P.K. Majumder, Deputy Chief Surveyor and Capt R. Johri, Surveyor also spoke on the occasion.
