Events `IT Kerala' expo inaugurated Govt plans satellite IT destinations Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 31 THE State Government plans to develop Kottayam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode as satellite information technology destinations to complement the State's main IT hubs, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. According to the State Finance Minister, Mr Vakkom Purushothaman, much of the IT activities in Kerala was now concentrated around the capital city and Kochi. He was speaking at the inauguration of IT Kerala 2006 exposition, which got under way at the Infopark here today. Mr Purushothaman said the Government would play the role of a facilitator in developing the new IT destinations and urged private companies to make the State a key hub for IT business in the country. The Finance Minister also stated that plans had been finalised for setting up a `Technocity' near Thiruvana- nthapuram. The Technocity would come up on a 50-acre plot and will have all facilities to house IT and BPO companies. He also inaugurated a new building, Vismaya, at the Infopark. The new building has 2.50 lakh sq ft and entailed an investment of Rs 40 crore. Over 100 companies, including multinationals, are participating in the IT Kerala 2006 exposition, which will continue till February 4. To be spread over an area of one lakh sq ft at Infopark, the event is being billed as one of the largest IT exhibitions in the country.
