Heavy commercial vehicle unit — Tata Motors requests W. Bengal to finalise incentive package

Pratim Ranjan Bose

Kolkata. Jan. 31

, TATA Motors has requested the State Government to make public the fiscal incentive package to be offered to the heavy commercial vehicle manufacturing unit it proposes to set up in West Bengal.

The State is one of the few locations short-listed by the company for setting up a greenfield truck manufacturing unit. The fiscal incentive package to be offered by the State Government will be part of the evaluation process in finalising the location.

The State Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Nirupam Sen, told Business Line: "We have received a request for finalising the fiscal incentive package from Tata Motors a few days back. We will soon finalise it," he added. Early this month, the State Government allocated 1,000 acres for the project at Guptamani on NH-6 in West Midnapore.

According to Mr Sen, Tata Motors officials had already visited the location and inspected the site.

He said: "Based on their requisition, we offered them 1,000 acres at Guptamani where land acquisition would be relatively simpler."

Mr Sen said the Russian truck manufacturer Ural had also finalised setting up an assembling unit in the State. Commissioning will take place in February.

"Ural have decided to start their venture in India with an assembling unit and set up a full scale manufacturing unit in the future", he said.
