Retailing ACNielsen service to track OTC retail market Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 1 ACNielsen has introduced the Retail Index OTC, a service that tracks the movement of OTC products in retail stores on a monthly basis. According to a press release, the index will provide pharmaceutical and FMCG companies with information on the over-the-counter drugs market. Data collected includes retailer purchases, stock and maximum retail price of OTC products. The index will help marketing and distribution managers spot emerging opportunities and competitive threats, the press release said. It will also help them identify new ways to reach the retailer and understand trends in offtake. The study will cover 462 towns and 1,500 villages based on a census of 4,480 villages. The panel covers a statistically representative sample of 16,000 FMCG product retailers across the country including grocers, general stores and convenience stores that stock OTC products. The index will cover product categories such as analgesics, cough lozenges/syrups, acne medication, antiseptic creams and liquids, skin hygiene, sugar substitutes and chyavanprash.
