Bajaj Auto sales up 28 pc in Jan

BAJAJ Auto Ltd (BAL) on Wednesday reported a 28 per cent rise in total two and three-wheeler sales for January 2006, to 203,777 units from the previous corresponding 158,709 units.

This included a 28 per cent increase in two-wheeler sales to 181,758 units (142,294 units for the year-ago period), a 32 per cent gain in motorcycle sales to 173,835 units (132,028 units) and a 34 per cent increase in three-wheeler sales to 22,019 units (16,415 units).

Exports for the month were up 22 per cent to 18,168 units (14,930 units).

For the April `05 - January `06 period, the company's two and three-wheeler sales moved up by 24 per cent to 18,61,667 units (15,04,986 units), including a 26 per cent gain in two-wheeler sales to 16,60,280 units (13,20,311 units). Sale of motorcycles increased by 31 per cent to 15,53,041 units (11,85,594 units) and that of three-wheelers, by 9 per cent to 201,387 units (184,675 units).

Exports were up 27 per cent to 194,933 units (153,084 units).
