Trade & Labour Unions Logistics - Modernisation AAI employees continue stir Passengers advised to travel light Our Bureaus
New Delhi/Kolkata , Feb. 2 FLIGHT services were normal across the country even as the Airports Authority of India employees continued their agitation on Thursday. "Passengers should be prepared for some inconvenience due to the AAI agitation. We would advise them to travel light and avoid check-in baggage if possible. This will ensure that a passenger does not have to wait too long for bags or have to carry their bags possibly over long stretches at the airport," the Secretary, Civil Aviation, Mr Ajay Prasad, said. While flights operated normally around the country today, there was some concern about cleanliness at the airports due to the agitation, the Secretary said. "In Delhi, we have made alternative arrangements for ensuring cleanliness at the airport. Similarly, at Kolkata there were some issues connected with electricity, water and the power supply to the restaurant at the airport. We have sought help from the State Government. Except for this, things are functioning reasonably well at other airports," Mr Prasad said. In Kolkata, which saw maximum disruption on Wednesday, flight operations in and out were said to be near normal today. However, passenger inconvenience was at its peak as there was no water supply in the domestic terminal. "Neither the aerobridges nor the conveyor belts were functioning. Even the passengers' luggage was being lugged in and out of aircraft manually," a passenger pointed out. Anticipating such problems, Air Deccan has requested its passengers to reach the airport at least one hour before the flight departs. Refusing to comment on Reliance's decision to go to the court as the matter was sub judice, the Secretary indicated that the move was unlikely to lead to the process getting delayed.
