WITH at least 20 per cent of foreign direct investment (FDI) share coming into Maharashtra and Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur having its presence in the top 10, it is time to develop other districts to ward off competition.
Mr Jayant Patil, State Minister for Finance and Planning, inaugurating the Mega Tech, industrial exhibition, which was kick-started on Wednesday and would be on till February 5, said this number had to increase to five and should include areas such as Nasik, Naded, Latur, Parbani etc.
"These should be developed in such a way that they offer competition to even Bangalore and Hyderabad," he noted.
Commenting on Mega Tech, he said it is a purely industrial exhibition representing the entire spectrum of industrial activity in the State.
The exhibition is spread over four air-conditioned hangers with about 170 companies participating in the event.
The event has received support form the Maharatta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MCCIA) and Maharashtra Economic Development Council.
Mr Patil said it was time to concentrate on power and infrastructure areas.
He added that India should now look at how to create more power and shift its outlook towards hydel power generation.
