McDonald's to open more outlets in North, South

New Delhi , Feb. 4

FAST food giant McDonald's India is set to expand its outlets in the country. It plans to widen its presence in tier two cities in the North.

"We would be opening more outlets in Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Shimla and Amritsar," Mr Vikram Bakshi, Managing Director, McDonald's India, said. He was speaking on the sidelines of the CII organised CRM Summit in the Capital. The chain is currently present in Lucknow, Jalandhar and Chandigarh among others. With regard to expansion in the South, Mr Bakshi said, "We would soon be setting up our second outlet in Chennai after Bangalore."

The company has adopted a "cluster approach" to expand. It initially focussed in the North and the West and now it would focus on increasing its presence in the South. "We want to ensure that our customers get a uniform experience at whichever of the outlets they go to across the country."

According to Mr Bakshi, the `drive-thru' restaurants at Jalandhar, Mathura, and Noida has provided McDonald's with a "great competitive advantage" and the company is contemplating opening more such outlets. "Location and the rental price would be key deciding factors for such openings," Mr Bakshi said. The growth driver for the company has been its effective strategy in being able to customise its offerings to cater to Indian tastes.
