Tea Good demand at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , Feb. 5 A GOOD general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 9,96,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC markets were generally dearer by Rs 2-3 and occasionally more. Orthodox dusts remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-67; medium CTC realised Rs 45-52; and below medium were quoted Rs 37-40. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices at Rs 109, while medium BOPD realised Rs 33-34. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,82,000 kg. Orthodox medium grades were steady to firm. Best highgrowns were fully firm to dearer, while specially highgrowns were higher. CTC's were firm to dearer by Re 1-2. Exporters to Iraq lent useful support to mediums. Other exporters operated on highgrowns. CTC's also witnessed better demand from exporters. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-70, medium orthodox realised Rs 38-43 and plain Orthodox were quoted Rs 33-37. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 42-47, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 38-41. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD realised the best prices of Rs 109, followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 77. In the leaf varieties, both Quinshole CL.OP (supr) and Quinshole CL.FOP (supr) fetched the best prices of Rs 192 each, followed by Chamraj FOP (supr) by Rs 180.01.
