Bangalore to host Indo-Spanish trade meet in June

Bangalore , Feb. 4

INDO-Spanish trade is expected to get a fresh impetus with a conference being organised here in Bangalore in June providing a platform for information, communication and telecom (ICT) enterprises to explore new opportunities.

The `Sportis' conference is an initiative jointly undertaken by the Interactive Technology Software and Media Association (ITSMA) and GAIA, the Electronic and ICT Association of Basque. Opportunities in other areas such as automation, engineering and consumer goods also held out a promise for cooperation between the two countries.

The Bangalore-based GAIA was the catalyst for the Indo-European ICT SME Forum.

Sportis will help create synergies and networking between the Indo-Spanish enterprises to develop value-added products and services in the sports field.

Sports industry, with a consumer spending in apparel, footwear and equipment accounting for an estimated $78.5 billion, has thrown up opportunities for innovation and technology.

Spain with a gross foreign direct investment of euro 46.7 billion had only a small share of 0.25 per cent in India. The country's investment in Spain was practically non-existent, thus the Sportis meet held great promise to set a new trend in economic ties between the two countries, said an ITSMA spokesperson.
