HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will visit gram sabhas (village meetings) in three districts on Monday.

Grama sabhas held the key in implementing the ambitious programme that aimed to provide primary healthcare, housing and infrastructure. They would oversee the projects taken up in the respective villages.

The programme willl be launched on April 1 in 8,020 select gram panchayats in the first year. Of the 5.6 crore rural population, the programme would cover 1.8 crore in the first year, a Government press release said.

The remaining panchayats would be covered by 2009 in phases.

The Chief Minister would visit Wasar village (Medak district), Alampur (Mahboobnagar) and Mutyalampad (Kurnool) during his visit on Monday.

"This is the first step towards implementing the programme," the release said.
