Sensex highs

The performance of the Sensex is purely driven by the dictum `too much money chasing too few shares'.

The upbeat mood of the FIIs and the mutual funds may even take the Sensex to historic heights.

Thus, there is no direct correlation between the performance of the Sensex and that of companies.

Despite poor performance in the third quarter, the shares of some of the companies have achieved their lifetime or 52-week highs.

The RBI took the bold step of increasing the repo rate in despite opposition from the Finance Minister.

The ICAI should tighten accounting and auditing standards and the SEBI should intensify its surveillance mechanism and implement the compliance audit of market intermediaries without any delay.
