At a nominal fee of Rs 10 per month for pre-primary students and Rs 25 per month for I-X classes, the school provides uniforms, shoes, textbooks, notebooks and stationary items.

Hyderabad , Feb. 6

ICFAI Republic School (IRS), an English medium school for underprivileged children, proposes to expand its activities across the State.

The school plans to set up 50 single-teacher, village schools in Ranga Reddy and Medak over the next 2-3 years, said the IRS Coordinator, Ms Vennela Nandury.

IRS, supported by ICFAI's Alpha foundation, currently has two schools in Fatehnagar and Dontaanpally on the outskirts of the city.

With a combined strength of 800 students, IRS has spacious classrooms, computers, audiovisual labs, play areas and clean toilets (on the lines of private schools).

At a nominal fee of Rs 10 per month for pre-primary students and Rs 25 per month for I-X classes, the school provides uniforms, shoes, textbooks, notebooks and stationary items.

Meals for children are prepared in the school's kitchen, Ms Nandury said.

Ms Mala Sundareshan, another Coordinator of IRS, said that admission is based strictly on economic criteria and proximity to the school. The poorer the family, the better the chances of admission.

Though there is no restriction on the number of children from a family getting admission into the school, IRS plans to review the policy in the coming days keeping in view the available resources and increasing demand, she said.

Ms Vennela Nandury said IRS proposes to start soon a similar school near Charminar, and a village school at Gummadidala, 30 km from here.

"We are enthused by the success achieved at Fatehnagar. Now, plans are at the drawing board stage for replicating the success in several cities, towns and villages of the State. We will also consider expanding our reach to other States as well in the coming years."
