Karur-Coimbatore NH stretch being upgraded

THE Karur-Coimbatore section of National Highway (NH 67) is being upgraded and strengthened at a cost of around Rs 177 crore.

The project is being taken up in two stages. In the first phase, the 59.2 km stretch between Karur and Kangeyam will be strengthened and widened. The 55.2 km stretch between Kangeyam and Coimbatore would be taken up in the next phase and the project would be completed in 24 months, according to the National Highways Authority of India. The works include rehabilitation of 7 minor bridges, reconstruction of 67 culverts and construction of 32 new pipe culverts.

The total cost of the Karur-Coimbatore project is estimated to be around Rs 177 crore.

The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Mr T.R. Baalu, will lay the foundation for the project in Coimbatore on Friday, according to a release.
