Wipro expects double digit growth in furniture business

K. V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , Feb. 8

WIPRO, which entered the furniture segment a year and half ago, is expecting to achieve a double-digit growth. The company has so far sold 22,000 workstations, with over 100 customers outside Wipro.

Eyeing the Rs 600-crore modular furniture and Rs 550-crore chair market (both in the office segment), the company, which confined itself to Bangalore for almost one year, has expanded to Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Delhi.

Mr Parag Kulkarni, General Manager (Furniture Business) of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, however, did not comment on modular furniture's revenues.

He told Business Line that Wipro offers a comprehensive ambience package for its clients. "We offer them furniture and seating and lighting solutions. They can choose either or both. We focus on IT and ITES companies only," he said.

Mr Kulkarni was here to take part in the three-day Indian Workspace-2006, an expo and conference on facility management solutions. He said the furniture, being sold under the Vibrant brand name, offers workstations that are global in design and also cater to Indian requirements.

Marking the expo, the company had launched a flexible chair and a light fixture. The Synchro chair is priced from Rs 3-3,500 to Rs 6,000.

The new light fixture, Duosoft, is designed specifically for modular ceiling systems, Mr Anuj Dhir, Marketing Manager of Wipro Lighting, said.

He said lighting plays a key role in the office ambience. "Mood depends on it," he added. The size of office lighting market in the country is Rs 250-Rs 300 crore.
