Lionbridge has facility for Aveva in Chennai

Raja Simhan T.E.

Chennai , Feb. 8

LIONBRIDGE Technologies, a US-based software company, has set up a build, operate and transfer (BOT) software development facility for the UK-based Aveva group in Chennai.

The facility has begun with 40 employees who are on the rolls of Lionbridge. It would be a three-year relationship and could be extended, Aveva's Product Development Director, Mr Dave Wheeldon, told Business Line.

According to him, availability of quality manpower and lower labour cost attracted the company to set up the facility in Chennai. Language skills among employees is a big advantage of the city.

The facility would be working on Microsoft's .Net technology and help in upgrading Aveva's software.

"In future, the Chennai facility would play a vital role in the development of software for the company. There would not be any employee layoff in the UK centre with the opening of the Chennai facility. We will only add people in the UK, and the Chennai facility would be an extended arm of the company's operations."
