THE Institute of Internal Auditors based in Florida is willing to fund colleges or universities that are interested in starting a course in internal auditing, the President of the Institute, Mr Dave Richards, told a news conference here today.
Mr Richards is here to take part in the 30th All India Conference on Internal Audit on the theme `Beyond Assurance - Enhancing Enterprise Value' being held here by the Chennai Chapter of The Institute of Internal Auditors, India on Friday and Saturday.
Mr Richards said that the Institute had "a couple of million dollars" for 2006 and had a procedure for applying for funds.
He said that in today's world of corporate governance, the role of internal auditors was very important. The scope of internal audit function went much beyond the financial numbers and looked at everything from technical details to fraud detection. As such, internal auditors were often not accountants and had to have a different set of skills.
The Chennai Chapter of IIA, India, started a diploma course in collaboration with the University of Madras last year.
