Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 9

PHYSICAL rubber turned steady following recovery in international futures. Covering groups and purchase agents were slightly vigilant in the absence of quantity sellers in the main marketing centres.

Traders in the spot market seemed to be more cautious as the wide fluctuations in the overseas indices indicate that the market is under the grip of speculators.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed flat at Rs 82.00 a kg at Kottayam while it declined to Rs 82.25 from Rs 82.50 a kg at Kochi.

The NMCE rubber futures improved quoting the February contract at Rs 82.00 (Rs 81.49), March at Rs 85.70 (Rs 83.88), April at Rs 88.10 (Rs 86.07) and May at Rs 89.30 (Rs 87.51) per kg for RSS 4.

The March contract for the grade firmed up to Rs 85.49 from Rs 84.16 a kg on the MCX.

The volumes stood at 2,443 lots till mid-session on the NMCE with 128 lots in February, 1,180 lots in March, 580 lots in April and 555 lots in May.

At TOCOM, the March futures for RSS 3 improved to 259.2 yen (Rs 96.40 ) a kg from 254.1 yen on Wednesday.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 82 (Rs 82); RSS-5: Rs 80.50 (Rs 80.50) ungraded: Rs 79 (Rs 79); ISNR 20: Rs 80.50 (Rs 80.50) and latex 60 per cent: : Rs 58 (Rs 58).
