Nimbus bags 4 year TV production contract from BCCI

New Delhi , Feb. 9

NIMBUS Sport will be in-charge of the television production of all the cricket matches played between March 2006-10 organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

It beat TWI, which has been producing some of the recently held series.

The BCCI said Nimbus Sport was awarded the contract as it had emerged the lowest cost bidder. The BCCI had asked for higher technical specifications this time such as increase in cameras from 21 to 25, inclusion of Hawkeye or equivalent, Zoomer, Ruler and so on.

The Board said the cost of production has been brought to less than $96,000, which is lower than the recent India-Sri Lanka and India-South Africa ODI series where the BCCI had paid about $1,25,000 per day.

The reduction in cost is despite the fact that current contract with Nimbus Sport is for the next four years and costs will escalate every year but the BCCI has secured a fixed price for four years, an official statement said. In addition, Nimbus Sport would have to produce 72 days of domestic cricket as part of the package.

Mr Lalit Modi, Chairman of the Marketing Sub Committee, said: "Three companies submitted the tenders and the BCCI Marketing Sub Committee scrutinised the bids and concluded that two bidders - Nimbus Sport and TWI - had the requisite qualifications and experience as per the conditions listed in the Invitation to Tender. With Nimbus Sport's excellent track record and very competitive cost BCCI has secured for itself and its fans a fantastic level of television coverage never before seen in India cricket."
