LG plans more GSM launches

LG Electronics India plans to increase its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication, a standard for mobile phones in the world) customer base in India.

Mr K.R. Kim, President, South West Asia and Managing Director, LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd, said that GSM handsets and high-end home appliances segment would be the biggest growth drivers this year. The company, which entered the GSM market only recently, is targeting a turnover of Rs 600 crore in this segment.

The company has launched three new models for the upper end of the market and one for the mid segment. It now has 14 GSM models available in the market. This year, LG plans to launch 18 GSM handsets.

It also plans to increase its network of 11,000 GSM dealers to 20,000 by the end of the year. The handsets will also be available through the company's consumer electronic and home appliance network.
