Infrastructure IT sector grabs lion's share of SEZs approved Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 9 THE Information technology sector has bagged the lion's share of sector-specific special economic zones (SEZs) approved so far by the Central Government. Out of the 43 sector-specific SEZs approved by the Government, 26 relate to the IT sector. The IT sector is followed by the apparel sector, with three SEZs approved in this sector. Apart from 43 formal approvals for sector-specific SEZs, the Government has also given in-principle approvals to 43 other sector-specific SEZs. Even among the list of in-principle approvals, the IT sector has the dominant share with 29 approvals. Out of the total 117 SEZs approved (including in-principle approval) so far by the Government, 86 relate to sector-specific SEZs, 28 to multi-product SEZs and three to Free Trade Warehousing zones.
