Chidambaram to hold pre-Budget talks with export bodies

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Feb. 9

THE Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, is to meet the heads of select export promotion councils here on Friday as part of his pre-budget consultations.

Informed sources said that export promotion agencies representing leather, textiles, electronics and software, gems and jewellery and handicrafts are to participate in the discussions that may involve both domestic and export-related issues.

Indications are that the export promotion agencies may take up issues such as import duty concessions, presence of inverted excise duty structures in segments such as man-made textiles and the status of the scheme to replace the duty entitlement passbook scheme.
