Online Marketing Pune jeweller offers e-shopping facility Our Bureau
Pune , Feb. 10 THE Indian family celebrates with the right spirit - and that touch of gold. Gifting of the auspicious yellow metal is popular during festive occasions. To cater to those living abroad and wanting to gift jewellery to loved ones here, the Pune-based P N Gadgil and Co has launched an e-shopping facility, which was inaugurated by actress Preity Zinta. Talking to presspersons here after the inauguration of the seventh showroom in Pune, Mr Saurabh Gadgil, partner, P N Gadgil, said the Web site would target people who have settled outside of India and who want to gift jewellery to their parents or close relatives. The company was the first jeweller from Pune to offer the e-shopping facility, he said. The jewellery catalogue would be available on the Web site. Buyers could pay online and also customise the sets for their loved ones. These would be hand-delivered if in Pune or couriered across, domestic or abroad, he said. Gift certificates from PNG would also be available online if the client preferred them.Reminiscing, Mr Gadgil recalled that the company had been started in Sangli district in Maharashtra in 1800. Then the founders would carry gold ornaments in baskets, sit on the roadside, and sell them. In 1958, they shifted to Pune. Now the company has four showrooms for gold and silver ornaments and two exclusively for diamonds. The showroom inaugurated on Thursday would be totally for gold jewellery. This was the sixth generation handling the business, he said. Besides traditional jewellery from across the country, customers could choose from an international range. The new showroom would have gold collection from Italy, Singapore and other areas across the globe, he said. Talking of customer tastes, Mr Gadgil said there wasa shift in gold buying from traditional designs to more trendy and lightweight ones. The shift has also been "from mere investment to more of adornment to suit the occasion." Punekars consumed close to 20,000 kg of gold in its various forms while the total consumption of gold in the country stood at 800 tonnes, he said.
